I’m in the process of setting up a new online store. Etsy is cool but I want to offer coupon codes, discounts and gift certificates to my customers. Artfire.com has the options for me to do all that and some. So I guess you can say I’m in a bit of a transition period. I have a lot of custom work coming in, I’m preparing for the trunk show (still looking for designers BTW so if you know of anyone let me know!!), setting up the online store and I’m looking to do a casting call on Model Mayhem. I want plus and straight sized models for a spring/summer shoot. I’ve surfed Model Mayhem over the last few weeks and there are some models I want to work with on there. The plus sized models were giving the straight sized girls a run for their money! I’m really excited and I’m planning the shoot for January 2010.

I really like Twitter. I have met some really cool designers and touched base with admirers of my work from all parts of the globe. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Tennille of naKIMuli. Not only is she an amazing designer from Brooklyn but she is such a positive spirit. I love to see her updates on twitter and the few times that we have ‘tweeted’ to one another she has always been positive and inspirational. She is doing a 30 day creative challenge where she’s aiming to create one new garment a day. Here’s some of her work:

Sweet Sweat Dress
Another subway post. I turned 24 this week and have been in a very introspective mood all week. Constantly thinking of ways to work smarter and make use of the resources available to me.
I got the idea to host a trunk show at Synchronicity Space’s gallery. The gallery owner is a friend of the family, is an avid supporter of the arts and young entrepreneurs. The space is small but that can work to my advantage. I’ve invited 2 other young women to display their wares. I’ll be emailing both of them later on today. In my minds eye the trunk show would be a way to make connections and sales. The shoppers can enjoy a glass of wine while personally meeting the designers and shopping in an intimate setting.
The first show is set to take place on Sunday November 15th between the hours of 2PM-7PM. The gallery is located on 106 W 13th St (between 6th and 7th avenues) New York, NY. Hopefully, it will be a success for both the designers and the customers, ensuring a winter sale venue.

I love that movie. Tell me you’ve seen it. Queen Latifah stars as Georgia Byrd; the meek and hardworking food demonstrator/retail associate at a major department store with a passion for culinary arts who takes an impromptu trip to Europe when she erroneously learns she has a malignant brain tumor. Thinking she only has months to live she liquidates her savings and goes on the vacation of a lifetime. That movie always makes me tear up. In fact, I need to get a new copy cause I scratched up my old dvd. It’s that damn good.
For the past few weeks I’ve been feeling like doing something adventurous. My job closes the office for a full week during christmas and new years holidays and being that I can’t go to Jamaica with Roxy right now I decided on a solo trip. But where? I figured for a week I could do something big considering I had the time off.

Amsterdam. The Venice of the North.
It was perfect. A city where I could travel on foot, be easily understood in English and all the museums and coffee shops a girl could ask for. After realizing no one would be able to take this trip with me I got comfortable with the idea of going alone and for the past 2 weeks I have been mentally psyching myself up for this amazing journey. My birthday is Saturday and instead of spending the money on a lavish celebration I purchased my ticket and am beyond excited. I’ll be leaving for Christmas Day. Spending 4 nights in Amsterdam before heading to Paris via eurorail on the 30th and ringing in 2010 on the Champs-Elysees. This is what the twenties are all about :)

(I’m blogging from my blackberry during my commute to work. Its the only way this post was gonna be written)
I don’t update as often as I should. there are other bloggers and crafters who seem to have the ability to make blogging look easy. On essence, its just a couple hundred words with some pictures and I should be able to crank out a few entries a week. For some reason I do not update but I’m not sure why. Maybe its the fact that I’m an emotional artist who has the tendency to retreat into the comfort of my own thoughts on a fairly regular basis. My desire to create waxes and wanes. That’s just how I am. Can’t help it.
I do need to update more often or at least get someone to do it for me. I’m so lazy sometimes =/
I have another sale coming up and I need to promote it better because my last sale was a bust. Saturday October 24th and Sunday the 25th. Special Gift Occasions 114 Dekalb Ave (btwn Ashland and St Felix)
And yeah, hopefully I can get those interviews/features on those crochet queens I told yall about a few weeks ago. Its getting cold and they make some pretty hot stuff! (Bad pun intended)

I fell in love with this Marc Jacobs cape
![]()
I love the crispness of the lines and the style of the cape but it doesnt seem to be in the true style of a cape so much as a jacket with bat sleeves. It’s a very nice cape anyway and I’m dying to try my hand at a similar garment. I have a vision for a mustard yellow wool cape with a high collar, black trim and afrikan print accents. something 3/4 length. It’s gonna be hot. I’ll be back.
Today went GREAT! My family was there to support me all day and even a few of my friends and coworkers stopped. I met so many cool folks and really felt the love and appreciation on all the pieces I worked so hard to make. The older ladies were KILLIN it style-wise. I saw so many vintage sunglasses and accessories. I mean some really fly stuff. In fact my very 1st customer was an older woman who purchased a wristlet pouch as her new cosmetic bag. Another woman fell in love with a shoulder bag. A third, with a pair of the square earrings. I noticed the younger crowd really liked the ruffle skirts. It was just an overwhelming sense of satisfaction today. If anything I feel more motivated than ever to keep working and booking events.
I know my etsy shop is empty but I’m in the process of uploading the pictures and whatnot. Everything on etsy should be operational by tomorrow night. I’m exhausted.
Here’s a few of the pics and a lil video from today that my mom took of me straightening my table.
